Course Information for the Waiheke Coastal Classic - Saturday 12 March 2011

5k Run/Walk
Walkers start at 10.30am, runners start at 11am from Matiatia, by the ferry terminal on Waiheke.

One for the kids or the occasional runners/walkers. Around 90 minutes leisurely walk.

Run through the Forest and Bird Reserve track and on to the ‘Sculpture on the Gulf’ coastal track that runs right round to Nick Johnstone Drive.A cool and shady section of the course - path winding beneath the trees.

Follow Nick Johnstone drive past Cable Bay Vineyard to Church Bay Road. Finish with a short blast down to Oneroa.

Finishes at the Oneroa Bowling Club All this for only $20 or $25 for late entries after 6 March.

10k Run/Walk
Walkers start at 10.30am, runners start at 11am from Matiatia, by the ferry terminal on Waiheke.

A good one-hour run or up to three hours leisurely walk.

Route as per the 5k route but carry on around the coastline to Church Bay. Up the hill along the edge of the sheep paddock to Church Bay Road. Straight across into Pio Rehutai Reserve, up to the Trig above Mudbrick Vineyard and down again to Blackpool Beach by the Marae. A short blast up Tahatai Road brings you to Oneroa.

Water stops, route markings and marshalls galore. You won’t get lost! Finishes at Matiatia for easy return to Auckland. A once in a lifetime experience!

Finishes at the Oneroa Bowling Club All this for only $25 or $35 for late entries after 6 March.

18k Run/Walk
Walkers start at 10.30am, runners start at 11am from Matiatia, by the ferry terminal on Waiheke.

A testing and sometimes tricky run (many steps, some rocky beach sections) that will take you about the same time as a half-marathon. A walk for the serious trampers. Could take up to five hours at a leisurely pace.

Route as per the 10k course but carries on past Church Bay and into the bush, emerging at Cable Bay. Run up and down 1000 steps as you follow the coastline right around Park Point. Drop down to the beach at beautiful Matarahui Bay and then on to Te Wharau Bay.

The course then snakes up through the bush to Church Bay Road and joins the 10k course at Pio Rehutai Reserve, it then follows the 10k course back to Oneroa.

Water stops, route markings and marshalls galore.

Finishes at the Oneroa Bowling Club. All this for only $30 or $40 for late entries after 6 March.
